Welcome
Interest Groups are often described as the lifeblood of a u3a and to some members are one of the most important parts of belonging to a U3A. Here at Hockley and Hawkwell it is no exception and we endeavour to provide the best we can! There are opportunities for learning, experiencing new activities, and allowing for interaction and socialising with like-minded people.
We have a wide range of groups but are always looking to start new groups and welcome suggestions from members. Each group is led by a facilitator. However this is not an onerous job as responsibility for the group should be shared between all the group members. Also a group can have several facilitators.
If a member wishes to join a group which is full their name will be added to a waiting list. Ideally once a waiting list forms a new group should be formed. If a member fails to attend a group on three successive occasions their place in the group can be offered to another member.
Group vacancies are advertised in our monthly Newsletter and at the monthly meeting.
Members can then sign up at the monthly meetings or by contacting the Group Co-ordinator directly.
Each of the groups is self-funding and self-managing and are led by Group Facilitators who have volunteered from within the membership of our U3A. Some groups are held in rented premises others in members’ houses. Each group members contributes equally towards any room hire or expenses. If a group is held in a members house a small contribution should be offered to the host towards any refreshment expenses.
